In this rat race called life, many people only focus on the hustle, efficiency, and whatever else it takes just to get there—to reach that quintessential goal. Life is seldom viewed in regard to living. Instead, it is mostly viewed as a journey, a means to an end. That end may be a goal, a dream, and so forth, but all one focuses on is rushing toward it, even if it means rushing past all the wholesomeness and beauty this roller coaster ride has to offer.
Think about it. We’re all more or less in the same boat. The human urge to reach beyond our means to achieve more and more has made life mundane and monotonous. We find ourselves so busy that we often even forget to stop and smile for a second. That’s not what life has to be about. Life is supposed to be lived to the fullest. It’s supposed to be enjoyed at the moment. Between all the uncertainties of life, that’s all we have to count on—the here and the now. Because, frankly, the future is just too unpredictable.
So, how can you make the most of your life? How can you enjoy the present while hustling for the future? The answer is by finding balance in life.
“Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm, and harmony.”
~Thomas Merton
Your internal and external life has to be in harmony with one another.
The internal aspect comprises your heart, health, and mind. Your mind should be given appropriate challenges along with proper time to rest as well. Your emotional state should be well in tune with your mental state. You should eat, drink, and exercise adequately to ensure sound health. The external aspect of your life revolves around your professional, social, familial, and leisure settings. If you pay attention to your internal well-being, it will automatically have a positive impact on the external aspects. Getting that balance between the internal and external aspects of your life will make the journey beautiful and less redundant, urging you to make the most out of it.
